President Buhari charges Nigerian Army to end Banditry, insurgency in the North

President Muhammadu Buhari has directed the Nigerian Army to as a matter of urgency end the Banditry and insurgency bedivilling the Northwest and Northeastern parts of Nigeria.

President Buhari gave the directive at a Nigerian Army Honours and Award Ceremony and Unveiling/ Launching of Compendium of Nigerian Army Transformation: The Buratai Years 2015- 2020.

President Buhari who was represented by the Minister of Defense, Major General. Bashir Salihi Magashi Rtd, said, the Federal Government will do the needful to secure the country from both internal and external aggression through given all the necessary support and logistics to the Nigerian Military for them to restore peace in the Country.

“I want to call on the Nigerian Army to rededicate their commitment to mitigate all forms of insecurity such as Banditry and terrorism bedivilling the Country particularly in some parts of the North, and the Federal Government will always provide the necessary logistics to Nigerian Army to safeguard Nigerians and the entire Country from insecurity”, President Buhari said.

In his remarks, the Chief of Army Staff, Lt. Gen. Tukur Yusufu Buratai said, the Nigerian Army under his leadership has introduced Exercise Sahel Sanity with a view to mitigate the recurring insecurity in the Northwest which will cover Sokoto, Niger, Kaduna, Katsina and Zamfara States.

16 Nigerian Army personnel including both officers and Soldiers were given the chief of Army Staff awards for professional excellence, selfless service and dedication to duty. Some of the beneficiaries included the Chief of Training and Operations of the Nigerian Army Major General Enobong Udoh and one Private Isah Umar who rescued 27 school children in Zaria when the fire inferno razed their School Bus, on their way to school recently.
